Moving Tips

Tip One

Think carefully prior to delivery day about the size and layout of your new residence and where you will place furniture and effects. If space is an issue, we can offer storage solutions to suit your requirements.

Tip Two

Carefully consider the need to insure, compared to the risk of having no insurance. Whomever you insure with, the cost of cover is invariably far less than the potential risk. Mini Movers Canterbury can arrange transit and storage insurance – please talk to one of our team members regarding this.

Tip Three

Do not polish wooden furniture before moving day as it can cause condensation when the item is wrapped for transit.

Tip Four

Do not water pot-plants 48 hours prior to moving. Water may leak from these onto your furniture

Tip Five

Defrost the refrigerator 48 hours before uplift to allow the interior sufficient time to dry. Towel-dry and wipe the interior with vanilla essence.

Tip Six

One of the most frustrating things about moving house is not being able to immediately put your hand on those important bits and pieces. To overcome this problem we can provide a Priority Box.

This bright yellow and white box is a different colour, size and style to all of the other boxes used for your removal, and will be loaded last to ensure ready access for you. Customers regularly place their TV remotes, bed legs, cords and any other small items in this box to keep them safe and easy to locate once you’re in your new house.

Tip Seven

To ensure your fridge is ready to transport, please make sure you empty all contents prior to the removal crew arriving.

If you have a fridge/freezer unit, it’s absolutely fine to leave the freezer compartment full (or even partly full). These goods will remain frozen until the unit can be plugged in at your new house. This is more suitable for relocations around town, rather than across NZ.
